Mucha - Primrose

With his graceful strokes, the Czech artist Alfons Mucha (1860-1939) defined his visual style at the turn of the century. With their pastel shades, his seductive compositions of flowers and beautiful women became paradigms of the Belle Époque years, the "Mucha style", synonymous with the "Art Nouveau" style. Mucha's work permeates the illustration, posters, postcards and advertising design of his time. His fascinating theatre posters for Sarah Bernhardt (1894) are among his most famous works. But also for famous French brands such as La Compagnie Française des Chocolats et des Thés, Les Bières de la Meuse, Ruinart, Moët et Chandon, Lefevre Utile, Cycles Perfecta, Waverley, Nestlé etc. Alfons Mucha's first decorative panels were "The Seasons" (1896). The series proved very popular and was followed by others: "The Flowers" (1898), "The Arts" (1898), "The Times of the Day" (1899), "The Precious Stones" (1900) and "The Moon and the Stars" (1902).
